Social Networking and Reputation Management Strategy for Car Dealers

Reputation Management or Social Media?

Reputation Management or Social Media? At a recent conference, the subject of Reputation Management’s association with Social Media came up from several dealers who had these two subjects confused or thought that perhaps they were one in the same. After a brief discussion, they realized that there are significant differences and, while they dovetail nicely with one another, there is an order of importance on which comes first.

Before we talk about that however, let’s back up a bit…to say, 30 years ago. Two people are talking on the phone (land line, and maybe even a rotary at that), and one friend says to the other, “I had dinner last night at Joe’s Steakhouse on Main and it was bad. Don’t waste your time.” To which his friend replies “Ok, we’re going out tonight and I’ll make sure we go elsewhere.” End of conversation.

The content of this scintillating dialog represents that: 1) reputation of the business being discussed in the form of an opinion (Reputation Management) and 2) social exchange (Social Media). Now fast forward to today…the same two people have this conversation a bit differently. The first person goes onto the internet and does a review of the restaurant (Reputation Management/instance) and probably shares something on Facebook or Twitter (Social Media/activity).

Presto Digital Marketing Social BuildoutNot that many years ago, some dealerships didn’t have a web site for their customers to find them, and we know that it is virtually impossible today. Just about every dealer in the world now has a site.  We also know that most of them are attempting to make this site look as nice as possible and function properly for maximum benefit for their guests.

Fast forward to today: Some dealerships have a Facebook page and some do not. With hundreds of millions of Facebook users, it's likely one day that all dealerships will be on Facebook.
A Twitter account and a YouTube channel are also not far away for many dealers. At some point, it will become obvious that all of the online properties that dealers will be working so hard to drive their customers to will need to look their best as well. Well, by all accounts (from OEMs to successful dealers) that day is here, and so now what do you do?

Enter Presto Digital Marketing!

We know how important it is to maintain a consistent branding element throughout your digital channels and why it’s important to put your best foot forward on these critical social elements.  We’re constantly evaluating new page creations and designs and want to bring you a theme and a look that will help keep you looking your best to the people who want to engage you the most.  See what it's all about.
